Do I need to pay for music in my venue?

Who do I need to pay?

What about streaming?

Playing music via YouTube, Google Play, Napster, or streaming services such as Spotify or Deezer is not permitted for commercial use.

Whether you play music permanently or organise a one-off event, you are required to pay. Unfortunately, no distinction is made here.

Payment of this fee relates to what is known as "copyright". These organisations ensure that artists receive the remuneration they have earned for their work.

Making a formal declaration

Via MyUnisono you can submit your application for the Equitable Remuneration together with your Sabam application. Both the invoicing and the application are handled together — killing two birds with one stone.

An overview of the applicable rates can be found here. These may vary depending on the type of establishment you run. There is, for example, a difference between chip shops, restaurants, and dance cafés.
